Coodanup burglaries compared with 2021
WA Police counted 42 burglaries in Coodanup in 2025. That is the same number as in 2021, so across the five years the figure is little changed. The years in between were lower, at 26 in 2022, 31 in 2023 and 25 in 2024, which makes 2025 a clear step up on the year before. Going further back, the count was higher again, with 89 in 2017.
Measured against the 4,366 residents counted at the 2021 Census, 42 burglaries gives a rate of 9.6 per 1,000 people. The metropolitan Perth rate for 2025 was 4.0, so Coodanup sits at well over twice that. Police report burglary as a single category at suburb level, covering homes and businesses together.
A roller shutter is a physical barrier on windows and doors. When it is down, anyone trying to get through the glass has to get through the shutter first, and that makes forced entry slower and noisier. It works best alongside the measures in WA Police burglary advice, such as deadlocks on external doors and good lighting at the entries.

Shutting a Coodanup house from the driveway
At the 2021 Census, 30.0% of Coodanup residents were 65 or over, close to double the Greater Perth figure of 15.8%, and the median age was 48. Mining employed 8.8% of working residents, compared with 6.6% across Greater Perth. The census does not record fly-in fly-out work, so read the mining share as a proxy and nothing more.
Whatever the reason for a trip, a house that sits empty for a week or a month is easier to manage with motorised shutters. A remote lowers every shutter from the car before you pull out of the driveway. Add a WiFi hub and you can operate them from your smartphone while you are away, and a timer can open them in the morning and close them again at night.
That fits the WA Police burglary flyer, which suggests making it look like someone is home by setting timers for lights, radio or TV.

Coodanup houses, units and outdoor areas
Landgate's suburb name history records that this area was subdivided as Coodanup Park Estate in 1956. At the 2021 Census, separate houses made up 86.1% of occupied dwellings, with 8.8% semi-detached, terrace or townhouses and 4.8% flats or apartments. Home ownership was 59.5%, below the Greater Perth figure of 70.4%.
For a house, residential roller shutters usually go on the bedrooms first, then the street facing windows and the large sliding doors. We cut the Ozroll aluminium slats to size in Wangara, build the pelmets and guides, fit the motors and test each shutter before it leaves the factory.
Units and townhouses are a smaller share, but they need one extra step. In a strata scheme, the default by-laws require the strata company's written consent before you keep anything visible from outside the lot that is out of keeping with the rest of the building, so ask before you order.
Out the back, outdoor blinds close in a patio or alfresco. We make Ziptrak and Slidetrack track blinds, cafe blinds and motorised blinds that run from a remote.

Coodanup by the inlet: bushfire and water
About 3.4 km of Coodanup's boundary runs beside the Peel Inlet. The suburb is not on the ocean coast, but it does carry a large bush fire prone share: 42.5% of its land is designated on the state map that came into effect on 13 December 2025.
Building and Energy's advice on retrofitting existing homes in those areas says windows should be protected with metal screens or bushfire shutters. Ozroll states that its roller shutters have been tested by the CSIRO against BAL-29 and BAL-40 standards. If your block has a bushfire attack level assessment, have it handy when we measure.
Pinjarra Road, Mandurah Road and Coodanup Drive are all classed as strategic freight or major traffic routes. If your bedrooms face one of them, mention it at the measure.

When a Coodanup home needs approval
Coodanup comes under the City of Mandurah. For a single house, shutters and blinds count as works under the state planning rules, and the exemption from development approval holds only if the R-Codes apply, the work meets their deemed-to-comply provisions, and the place is not heritage protected.
Strata titles add their own layer. Landgate's guidance is that the strata company's approval is in addition to any development and building approvals, so a townhouse owner may need more than one sign off.
The age profile here makes one rebate worth a look. The WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate covers security window screens or window shutters, with a $100 minimum purchase and up to $400 back, and each household can claim it once.
