Roller shutters for San Remo homes

With so few residents, 6 burglaries works out at 5.9 per 1,000, above the metropolitan rate of 4.0. Two cautions apply to that number. One or two incidents shift a small suburb's rate a long way, and the population has grown by an estimated 21.7% since the census it is based on, so the rate overstates.

On any single house, a roller shutter does a plain job. It puts a physical barrier on windows and doors and makes forced entry slower and noisier, working as one layer with good locks and lighting.

One R-Codes detail matters if shutters double as privacy screens. Under the visual privacy standard, shutters used as screening devices must be at least 1.6 m high, at least 75 per cent obscure, permanently fixed and made of durable material.

With almost a quarter of residents aged 65 or over, the WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate is worth knowing about. It lists security window screens or window shutters as eligible, with a minimum spend of $100, and members can claim up to $400 per household, once.
