Mount Nasura burglaries: too few for a trend
Mount Nasura had 2,997 residents at the 2021 Census, and in a suburb that size the burglary count moves around from one year to the next. WA Police recorded 18 burglaries in 2025, the same number as in 2024, and 15 in 2021. Earlier years ranged from 11 in 2020 to 53 in 2019. These numbers are too few to read a reliable trend in either direction.
Eighteen burglaries works out at a rate of 6.0 per 1,000 residents in 2025, above the metropolitan rate of 4.0. With so few cases, one or two more or less in a year changes that rate noticeably, so treat it as a rough guide.
A roller shutter is a physical barrier on windows and doors. Lowered, it makes forced entry slower and noisier. It belongs with good locks and lighting rather than replacing them.

Lock up and go in Mount Nasura
The 2021 Census shows an older population. 21.7% of Mount Nasura residents were 65 or over, compared with 15.8% across Greater Perth, and the median age was 44. Mining employed 5.5% of working residents, a little under the Greater Perth figure of 6.6%. The census does not record fly-in fly-out work, so that share is only a proxy for it.
For a long trip, a remote control lowers every shutter from one handset as you lock up, and smartphone app integration lets you check and operate them from wherever you are. WA Police holiday advice is to set your alarm system when you leave home and to give a trusted person your contact details and spare keys. Shutters slot into that routine: down before you go, and raised when your trusted person drops in to check the house.
Power cuts are worth a thought too. The Somfy CSI motor for hardwired shutters has a manual override, so the shutters can still be operated even if power is not present.

Where to start with shutters in Mount Nasura
Housing in Mount Nasura is almost entirely separate houses: 96.7% of occupied dwellings in 2021, against 77.8% across Greater Perth, with 3.3% semi-detached homes or townhouses and 0.3% flats. 86.6% of homes are owned, and 37.5% are owned outright. The City of Armadale Library's historical timeline records that the Derry-na-sura vineyard was sold for subdivision in 1940, and the suburb's name comes from Derrynasura, a hillside vineyard established in the area in 1897.
Most owners start with the bedrooms, where residential roller shutters give sunlight control as well as security, then move on to the big sliding doors. The WA Seniors Card rebate guide makes the same point, calling window shutters a more expensive option that brings benefits beyond security, including saving on energy costs and sunlight control.
The outdoor area gets the same care. Our outdoor blinds include Ziptrak, Slidetrack, cafe and motorised blinds, each measured on site and made in our own factory.

Mount Nasura on the bush fire map
68.8% of Mount Nasura is designated bush fire prone on the state map in effect from 13 December 2025, so a large share of the suburb sits inside the mapped area. Bushfire construction requirements are generally not retrospective, but Building and Energy's guidance on retrofitting existing homes is that windows should be protected with metal screens or bushfire shutters.
Ozroll, the maker of the components we build with, states that its roller shutters have been tested by the CSIRO against BAL-29 and BAL-40 standards. If you have a bushfire attack level assessment, have it ready for the measure.
Albany Highway and Brookton Highway both pass through the suburb and are mapped as strategic freight or major traffic routes. Rooms that face either one are worth pointing out.

Approvals and rebates in Mount Nasura
Mount Nasura is in the City of Armadale. Under the state planning rules, work on a single house is exempt from development approval only where the R-Codes apply, the work meets the deemed-to-comply provisions and the place is not heritage protected. On bush fire prone land there is one more condition: where a bushfire attack level assessment puts a site at BAL-40 or BAL-FZ, development covered by that part of the rules can need approval despite any exemption.
The City's Designing Out Crime policy, PLN 3.14, suggests building security screens and bars in at the design stage rather than adding them later, and asks that roller shutters, where needed, be used sparingly and be visually permeable.
Two rebates are worth checking. WA Seniors Card members may be able to claim up to $400 under the state Safety and Security Rebate, which lists security window screens or window shutters as eligible. The City of Armadale's Security Incentive Scheme 2026/2027 lists roller shutters at $200, rising to $250 for Pensioner Concession, Health Care or WA Seniors Card holders.
