Roller shutters Wanneroo
Wanneroo sits 4 km from our Wangara factory as the crow flies. More than a fifth of its residents, 21.3%, are aged 65 or over, and burglaries fell between 2021 and 2025.

Wanneroo burglaries: fewer than half the 2021 count
The police count for Wanneroo was 29 burglaries in 2025. Four years earlier, in 2021, it was 70, so the count has fallen by about 59%. On the 12,113 residents counted at the 2021 Census, the 2025 rate comes to 2.4 per 1,000, well below the metropolitan rate of 4.0.
The longer run points the same way. The count was 112 in 2019 and 80 in 2017. Motor vehicle thefts, recorded separately, went from 19 in 2021 to 13 in 2025.
Fewer burglaries is good news, and a shutter is simply one more practical layer. Closed, it puts a physical barrier on windows and doors; forced entry through it is slower and noisier. Good locks and lighting remain part of the same picture.

Wanneroo's older residents and shutters on a timer
Wanneroo has an older profile than Greater Perth. At the 2021 Census, 21.3% of residents were 65 or over, compared with 15.8% across the metro area, the median age was 41, and 30.1% of homes were owned outright. Mining employed 5.6% of working residents against 6.6% for Greater Perth. The census does not record fly-in fly-out rosters, so the mining share serves only as a proxy.
For anyone who travels for weeks at a time, or simply prefers not to wind shutters by hand, motorised control does the work. Shutters can be set to open and close automatically at specific times. Somfy's Chronis remote, used with hardwired motors, has a built-in timer that can hold up to 6 time slots a day, every day of the week. Add WiFi and you can operate them from a smartphone while you are away.
WA Police advice for seniors and for holidays covers the rest: lock all doors and windows, set timers for lights and electronics, and give a trusted person your contact details and spare keys. On hardwired motors, Somfy's CSI motor has a manual override so the shutters still work when the power is out.

Wanneroo houses, townhouses and patios
Most Wanneroo homes, 86.9% of occupied dwellings in 2021, are separate houses. Semi-detached, terrace and townhouses make up 10.2%, a large enough share that strata rules matter for a fair number of owners.
On a house, start with residential roller shutters where they do the most work: bedrooms, living areas facing the street and any large glass sliders. Every shutter is made in our own Wangara factory: Ozroll aluminium slats are cut to length, the pelmets and guides are built, and the motors are fitted and tested in house.
Townhouse owners in a strata scheme need the strata company's written consent for anything visible from outside the lot that does not match the rest of the building. Raise it with the strata company before we measure.
Patios and pergolas suit outdoor blinds. Crank handle blinds keep things simple, while motorised outdoor blinds, Ziptrak and Slidetrack systems suit larger openings.
Our range

Wanneroo's bush fire designation and arterial roads
Two thirds of the suburb, 66.0% of its land, is designated bush fire prone on the state map in effect from 13 December 2025. Building and Energy's advice on retrofitting an existing home says windows should be protected with metal screens or bushfire shutters, and Ozroll states that its roller shutters have been tested by the CSIRO against BAL-29 and BAL-40 standards. If your lot has had a bushfire attack level assessment, bring it out when we visit.
Wanneroo Road, Ocean Reef Road and Joondalup Drive all pass through the suburb, and the state noise policy classes each as a strategic freight or major traffic route. If your home faces or backs onto one of them, tell us when we measure.

Heritage places and approvals in the City of Wanneroo
Wanneroo is in the City of Wanneroo, and it is one of the localities with entries on the City's Heritage List 2025, which holds 21 place records and 17 lime kiln records. If your home is listed, the City's Local Planning Policy 4.12 says a heritage-protected place is not exempt from needing development approval, and its exemption policy, Local Planning Policy 4.26, adopted on 23 June 2026, excludes sites on the Municipal Heritage List or the State Heritage Register.
For an unlisted single house, the state rules exempt alterations from development approval as long as the R-Codes apply and the work meets the deemed-to-comply provisions.
With so many residents over 65, the WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate deserves a mention. Card holders can claim up to $400 per household, once for the life of the scheme, and security window screens or window shutters with a minimum purchase of $100 are an eligible item.

Questions about roller shutters in Wanneroo
How have burglaries changed in Wanneroo?
They have fallen. WA Police recorded 70 burglaries in Wanneroo in 2021 and 29 in 2025, and the 2025 rate of 2.4 per 1,000 residents was well below the metropolitan rate of 4.0.
Is my Wanneroo home affected by the City's Heritage List?
Only if your place is listed. The City of Wanneroo Heritage List includes places in the suburb, and a listed or State Register place needs development approval for works that would otherwise be exempt.
Can seniors in Wanneroo get a rebate on shutters?
WA Seniors Card holders can claim the Safety and Security Rebate, up to $400 per household, and window shutters are an eligible item.
Can Wanneroo shutters open and close on their own?
Yes. Motorised shutters can run on a timer, opening and closing at set times, and with WiFi you can control them from your phone while you are away.
