Roller shutters in Banksia Grove

WA Police counted 35 burglaries in Banksia Grove in 2025, against 34 in 2021. Over five years, then, the picture is little changed. Spread across the 11,351 residents counted at the 2021 Census, the 2025 total works out at 3.1 burglaries per 1,000 people, below the metropolitan rate of 4.0. The police keep one count per suburb, and it covers homes and businesses together.

The years in between ran higher. The count reached 59 in 2024, so 2025 came in about 41% under the year before, and it sits about 60% below the 88 burglaries recorded in 2017.

So what does a shutter actually add? Rolled down, it is a physical barrier on windows and doors, and getting through a shuttered opening by force becomes slower and noisier. Think of it as one layer next to decent locks and outdoor lighting, not a replacement for them.

Nearly every home in Banksia Grove is a separate house: 95.8% of occupied dwellings at the 2021 Census, well above the Greater Perth figure of 77.8%. Semi-detached, terrace and townhouses made up another 4.1%, and the home ownership rate was 75.3%.

Banksia Grove sits wholly within the City of Wanneroo. Check all three before assuming no approval is needed.

The City's exemption policy, Local Planning Policy 4.26, adopted on 23 June 2026, takes sites on its Municipal Heritage List or the State Heritage Register outside the exemption. Its heritage policy says the same in plainer terms: a heritage-protected place is not exempt from needing development approval. If your home is listed, speak to the City first.
