Roller shutters in Treeby

WA Police recorded 6 burglaries in Treeby in 2025, which works out at 1.4 per 1,000 residents against 4.0 for metropolitan Perth. The yearly count moves around a lot: 14 in 2021, 22 in 2024, then 6. With an average of about 15 a year, the numbers are too small to read a trend, and one year can swing a long way from the next.

The rate also leans high. It divides by the 4,214 people counted at the 2021 Census, and Treeby's population has grown by an estimated 18.7% from 2021 to 2025, so the true rate per resident is likely lower again.

Low numbers are no reason to skip the basics. Roller shutters put a physical barrier on windows and doors and make forced entry slower and noisier. In a suburb this heavily mapped for bushfire, they are worth weighing for that reason as well, as set out below.

For freestanding houses, start with residential roller shutters on bedrooms and the biggest glass doors. With 20.6% of homes attached, strata is a real question here. Under the default by-laws, anything visible from outside your lot that is not in keeping with the rest of the building needs the strata company's written consent, and Landgate adds that strata approval sits on top of any development or building approvals.

Shutters on a single house generally fall under the state exemption from development approval. Three things must hold: the R-Codes apply to the work, it meets the deemed-to-comply provisions, and the house is not heritage protected.

Heritage protection takes in places on the City of Cockburn Heritage List. For those, the City's guidelines require development approval for all development, even minor works, so a listed property is a clear case for speaking to the City first.

Treeby falls within the City of Cockburn, whose Seniors Security Rebate lists roller shutters at $350 but is closed for 2026 to 2027. Seniors Card members may claim the state Safety and Security Rebate on window shutters instead, up to $400.
