Henley Brook burglary numbers in context

Henley Brook had 17 burglaries in 2025. On the 2021 Census population of 2,500, that is a rate of 6.8 per 1,000 residents, against 4.0 for metropolitan Perth. That rate needs a caveat. The suburb has grown by an estimated 53.1% between 2021 and 2025, so dividing the latest count by the older population overstates it.

Over five years the count is little changed: 21 in 2021 and 17 in 2025. Single years have swung around it, from 11 in 2022 to 37 in 2024. As with every suburb figure, homes and businesses are counted together.

A roller shutter does one job here: it puts a physical barrier on windows and doors, so forced entry is slower and noisier. Pair it with the WA Police basics, such as deadlocks on external doors and windows and sensor lighting at entries.

Burglary counts cover homes and businesses together. Henley Brook has grown by about 53% since the 2021 Census, so a rate based on the 2021 population overstates the current figure.

Securing a Henley Brook property while you travel

Mining employed 6.6% of working Henley Brook residents, exactly the Greater Perth share. The census has no question on fly-in fly-out work, so that figure is a proxy at best. Residents aged 65 and over were 14.5%, a little under the Greater Perth share of 15.8%, and the median age was 41.

For trips away, choose motorised shutters and add a WiFi hub, so you can open and close them from your phone. Hardwired motors can also run from a Somfy Chronis remote, which has a built in timer with up to 6 time slots a day, every day of the week. That suits the WA Police holiday checklist: set timers for lights and electronics, set the alarm, and leave a trusted person your contact details and a spare key.

Henley Brook houses and the shutters that suit them

97.3% of Henley Brook's 777 occupied dwellings were separate houses at the 2021 Census, against 77.8% for Greater Perth. Townhouses were 2.1% and there were no flats. Home ownership was 81.3%, and 32.9% of homes were owned outright.

So the starting point is residential roller shutters, chosen opening by opening. On a job in Aveley, 3.1 km away, we used grey shutters with a mix of in reveal and angle fit types.

For patios and alfrescos, Slidetrack and Ziptrak blinds close the open sides against wind and sun. They can be manual or motorised, and like the shutters they are made in our Wangara factory.

The Swan River and bushfire land at Henley Brook

The Swan River lies along part of Henley Brook, with the suburb boundary within 60 m of the water. Of the suburb as a whole, 48.8% is designated bushfire prone on the state map that took effect on 13 December 2025.

For existing homes, Building and Energy's retrofit advice is that windows should be protected with metal screens or bushfire shutters, and it notes that bushfire construction requirements are generally not retrospective. Ozroll states that its roller shutters have been tested by the CSIRO against BAL-29 and BAL-40 standards. A bushfire attack level assessment for your lot is the best guide to what you need, so have one ready for the measure if you can.

Planning approval for a Henley Brook home

Under state rules, adding shutters to a single house needs no development approval if three conditions hold: the R-Codes apply, the work meets the deemed-to-comply provisions, and the house is not heritage protected.

The local check is the City of Swan's Heritage List. Alterations to a listed place need approval so the City can judge the impact on its heritage value. On a bushfire prone lot assessed at BAL-40 or BAL-FZ, state rules can also require development approval for some development that would otherwise be exempt, so ask your assessor whether that applies to your block.
