Roller shutters in Aveley

Aveley recorded 24 burglaries in 2025, the same number as in 2021, so the five year picture is little changed. Spread across the 13,998 residents counted in 2021, the 2025 count is a rate of 1.7 per 1,000, well under half the metropolitan rate of 4.0.

Two notes help when reading that rate. The suburb has grown by an estimated 19.0% between 2021 and 2025, and the rate is worked from the older population, so it overstates the figure. The count also covers homes and businesses together. Over the longer run, 2025 was 52.9% below the 51 burglaries recorded in 2017.

Shutters give a house a physical barrier on windows and doors, which makes forced entry slower and noisier. With a count this low, the case for them in Aveley rests as much on heat, glare and convenience as on security.

For the Aveley project for Vijay, we made and installed 12 roller shutters in grey. Openings were covered with in reveal and angle fit types, and every shutter went on remote with WiFi. Install time was 4 weeks.

That kind of job matches the local housing. At the 2021 Census, 92.9% of Aveley's 4,701 occupied dwellings were separate houses and 6.8% were semi-detached, terrace or townhouses, with flats at 0.3%. Home ownership stood at 79.6%. Residential roller shutters are built for homes like these. Where a townhouse is in a strata scheme, get the strata company's written consent first for anything visible from outside.

The state planning regulations exempt alterations to a single house from development approval when the R-Codes apply, the work is deemed-to-comply, and the home is not heritage protected. Meet all three and shutters on an Aveley house need no planning application.

The City of Swan check is its Heritage List. Its heritage page states that development approval is required for alterations to a listed place, so the City can assess the impact on heritage value. If you are unsure whether your property is listed, ask the City before ordering. On bushfire prone land assessed at BAL-40 or BAL-FZ, development approval can be needed even where the usual exemptions would apply.
