Peppermint Grove is small, with 1,597 residents at the 2021 Census, and its burglary counts are small too. WA Police recorded 11 burglaries here in 2025. Divided by that population, the rate is 6.9 per 1,000 residents, above the metropolitan rate of 4.0, but on a base this size a handful of incidents moves the rate a long way.

For the same reason, the numbers are too few to read a trend. There were 10 burglaries in 2021 and 19 in 2017, and across 2021 to 2025 the suburb averaged 8.2 a year.

The Shire of Peppermint Grove says a development application is required unless a proposal is specifically exempted. The main state exemption for houses covers alterations to a single house where the R-Codes apply, the works are deemed-to-comply, and the place is not heritage protected. The Shire's scheme has no special control areas.

Heritage List places are handled strictly. The Shire's heritage policy says all works, including external cosmetic changes and internal structural works, require a development application before a building permit is issued, and that once a place is listed, all development works need Council planning approval first. If your home is on the list, allow for that step before shutters or blinds go on.
