Roller shutters in North Perth

North Perth recorded 41 burglaries in 2025, according to WA Police. Set against the 9,623 residents counted at the 2021 Census, that is a rate of 4.3 per 1,000, a little above the metropolitan rate of 4.0. At suburb level the police report one figure for homes and businesses together.

The five year direction is down. There were 80 burglaries in 2021, so the 2025 figure is 48.8% lower, and back in 2017 the count stood at 157, nearly four times what it is now. Motor vehicle thefts fell even harder, from 34 in 2021 to 3 in 2025, and property damage went from 69 to 43.

What a shutter adds is simple. Rolled down, it is a physical barrier on windows and doors, and it makes forced entry slower and noisier. It sits alongside the deadlocks, sensor lights and security screens in WA Police home security advice, not in place of them.

Landgate's suburb history says the area was mainly developed in the boom times following the 1890's gold rush. The housing mix today is wider than that suggests. In the 2021 Census, 65.4% of occupied dwellings in North Perth were separate houses, below the Greater Perth figure of 77.8%. Another 18.5% were semi-detached, terrace or townhouses and 15.9% were flats or apartments.
