Huntingdale burglaries halved as the suburb grew
Huntingdale's burglary count more than halved over five years, falling from 71 in 2021 to 33 in 2025, a 53.5% drop. It dipped to 32 in 2022 and 28 in 2023, rose to 48 in 2024, then came back down. In 2017 the count was 82. Motor vehicle thefts followed a similar path, from 15 in 2021 to 9 in 2025.
The 2025 rate is 3.7 per 1,000 residents, just below the metropolitan rate of 4.0. That rate is worked out on the 2021 Census population of 9,021, and Huntingdale is estimated to have grown 15.6% from 2021 to 2025, so this rate overstates the real one. WA Police count homes and businesses together in the suburb figure.
In practical terms, a roller shutter gives each window or glass door a physical barrier while it is down, which makes forced entry slower and noisier.

Leaving Huntingdale for work or a break
Huntingdale has a smaller share of older residents than Greater Perth. Only 11.4% of residents were 65 or over at the 2021 Census, against 15.8% for Greater Perth, and the median age was 35. Mining employed 5.8% of working residents, a little under the 6.6% for Greater Perth; the census does not record fly-in fly-out work, so read that share as a proxy.
Whatever takes you away, automatic timer and scheduling lets the shutters open and close at set times on their own. On hardwired motors, Somfy's CSI model has a manual override, so a shutter can still be worked when the power is off.
Through summer, a timed shutter can also keep the afternoon sun off the glass before anyone gets home.

Nearly every Huntingdale home is a separate house
Huntingdale is a suburb of houses. At the 2021 Census, 99.3% of its 2,992 occupied dwellings were separate houses, 0.5% were semi-detached or townhouses, and there were no flats. 78.4% of homes were owned, against 70.4% for Greater Perth. The name began as a promotional label used by developers, and the Town of Gosnells suggested it for the suburb in 1974.
So the choice here is almost all residential roller shutters: bedrooms first, then living areas and sliding doors. Back yard alfrescos suit motorised outdoor blinds or manual Ziptrak and Slidetrack blinds, and every blind and shutter is cut, assembled and checked in our Wangara factory before it is fitted.

Huntingdale homes inside the mapped bush fire area
42.4% of Huntingdale is designated bush fire prone on the state map, in force from 13 December 2025. Whether your block falls inside the mapped area matters. Building and Energy says a building wholly outside the mapped area does not need to comply with bushfire construction requirements, and that the requirements are generally not retrospective. Its advice for retrofitting existing homes includes protecting windows with metal screens or bushfire shutters.
Ozroll, the maker of the aluminium shutter components we use, states that its roller shutters have been tested by the CSIRO against BAL-29 and BAL-40 standards. If a bushfire attack level assessment has been done for your lot, we will ask to see it when we measure.

Huntingdale and the City of Gosnells exemptions
A Huntingdale house can usually take shutters without development approval. The state exemption for a single house applies when three conditions are met: the R-Codes apply, the work meets the deemed-to-comply provisions, and the place is not heritage protected. Huntingdale is not named on the City of Gosnells Heritage List.
Two cautions apply. On bushfire prone land, a BAL-40 or BAL-FZ rating can bring back the need for development approval for development the bushfire provisions cover, despite the exemption. And the City's LPP 1.3 points out that exempt work may still need a building permit or another approval.
Seniors Card members may be able to put the WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate toward window shutters, up to $400 per household.
