Roller shutters in Hillarys

In 2021 WA Police recorded 39 burglaries in Hillarys. By 2025 the count had fallen to 19, about half, with 2024 also at 19. The suburb had 11,200 residents at the 2021 Census, which puts the 2025 rate at 1.7 per 1,000, less than half the metropolitan rate of 4.0.

Other property offences have also come down. Motor vehicle thefts went from 11 in 2021 to 7 in 2025, and property damage from 70 to 46. Burglary counts in 2018 were higher still, at 70.

Under the visual privacy standard, external blinds and shutters used as screening devices must be at least 1.6 m high, at least 75 per cent obscure, permanently fixed and made of durable material.

If your home is on the City's Heritage List, development approval is required to alter it. Seniors Card holders can also claim the WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate, which lists security window screens or window shutters as an eligible item, up to $400 per household.
