Falcon roller shutters and outdoor blinds

Falcon had 30 burglaries in 2025, according to WA Police. With 5,531 residents at the 2021 Census, that is a rate of 5.4 per 1,000, above the metropolitan Perth rate of 4.0. Like every suburb figure, the count takes in homes and businesses together.

Over five years the picture is little changed: 36 burglaries in 2021 and 30 in 2025. The middle years were much lower, with 12 in 2022, 14 in 2023 and 16 in 2024, so 2025 looks like a big step when set beside 2024 alone. Set beside 2021, it is slightly lower. In 2017 the count was 59.

No product can promise a house will be left alone. What a shutter does is put a physical barrier on windows and doors and make forced entry slower and noisier. The WA Police burglary flyer covers locked windows, deadlocks, lighting at the entries and keeping valuables out of sight from windows.

Falcon is almost entirely houses. Separate houses are 95.1% of occupied dwellings, 75.2% of homes are owned, above the Greater Perth figure of 70.4%, and 42.1% are owned outright. Townhouses are only 4.0%, so the strata consent rule touches few owners here.

That makes residential roller shutters the main job, on bedrooms, living areas and sliding doors. Each one is built in our Wangara factory from Ozroll aluminium slats cut to your opening, with the motor fitted and the shutter tested before it leaves the floor.

Falcon is in the City of Mandurah, and none of the City's precinct rules on screens or heritage covers it. That leaves the state planning rules. Works to a single house, shutters included, are exempt from development approval where three conditions hold: the R-Codes apply, the works meet the deemed-to-comply provisions, and the place is not heritage protected.

One detail matters if a shutter or external blind is there for privacy. Under the R-Codes deemed-to-comply visual privacy standard, screening devices such as external blinds and shutters must be at least 1.6m high, at least 75 per cent obscure, permanently fixed and made of durable material.

Seniors Card members can claim the WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate, which covers security window screens or window shutters from a $100 minimum purchase, up to $400 per household. With 28.3% of Falcon residents aged 65 or over, it is worth checking before you order.
