Two Rocks burglary counts: too few to call a trend

WA Police recorded 20 burglaries in Two Rocks in 2025. Set against the 2021 Census population of 3,822, that is 5.2 per 1,000 residents, about a third above the metropolitan Perth rate of 4.0. The suburb figure is one combined count for homes and businesses.

Counts this low jump around. Two Rocks had 9 burglaries in 2021 and 20 in 2025, an average of 11.8 a year across those five years, and from 2017 to 2025 the yearly total ranged between 7 and 24. Those numbers are too small to read a trend from. The rate needs a caution as well: the suburb is estimated to have grown by 31.4% between 2021 and 2025, while the rate still divides by the 2021 population, so it overstates.

A roller shutter does one practical job here. Rolled down, it is a physical barrier on windows and doors, and it makes forced entry slower and noisier. It sits alongside the steps in WA Police advice, such as deadlocks on external doors and sensor lighting.

Burglary counts cover homes and businesses together. With fewer than 20 burglaries a year on average, the numbers are too small to read a reliable trend. Two Rocks has grown by about 31% since the 2021 Census, so a rate based on the 2021 population overstates the current figure.

Shutting up a Two Rocks house while you are away

At the 2021 Census, 14.0% of employed Two Rocks residents worked in mining, a bit over twice the Greater Perth share of 6.6%. The census does not ask about fly-in fly-out rosters, so treat that figure as a proxy only. People aged 65 and over made up 14.8% of the suburb, a little under 15.8% for Greater Perth.

For a house left shut for a week or more, motorised shutters close from a single remote as you walk out. With WiFi connectivity you can control them from your smartphone even when you are away from home, and the automatic timer opens and closes them at set times so the place keeps a daily rhythm. WA Police holiday advice says to lock every door and window, including pet doors, the garage and the shed, and to set timers for lights and electronics.

Power is worth a thought on a long absence. Ozroll's E-Series battery drive does not rely on mains power and can run the shutters in a power failure, and Somfy's CSI motor gives hardwired shutters a manual override.

Fitting out a Two Rocks house, window by window

Two Rocks is almost all detached housing. Separate houses made up 99.3% of occupied dwellings in 2021, against 77.8% across Greater Perth, and home ownership was 80.7%, well above the Greater Perth figure of 70.4%. That makes it simple ground for residential roller shutters.

A sensible order is bedrooms first, then the windows that face the street, then the wide sliding doors. Each shutter is cut to its opening in Wangara: Ozroll aluminium slats sized, pelmets and guides built, and the motor fitted and tested before it leaves the floor. Every one carries a 10-year warranty on roller shutters.

Out the back, an alfresco can be closed in with outdoor blinds: Ziptrak track-guided blinds, Slidetrack, cafe blinds, or motorised blinds on a remote.

Salt air and bushfire mapping at Two Rocks

95.9% of Two Rocks is designated bush fire prone on the state map that came into effect on 13 December 2025. For existing homes, Building and Energy's retrofit advice is plain: windows should be protected with metal screens or bushfire shutters. Ozroll states that its roller shutters have been tested by the CSIRO against BAL-29 and BAL-40 standards, and adds that each application still has to be considered for compliance. Bring any bushfire attack level assessment for your block to the measure.

Two Rocks also has an ocean front, and parts of the suburb are within 1 km of the coast. Salt in the air is hard on metal outdoors, so ask about finishes and a rinse routine for shutters on the seaward side.

City of Wanneroo rules for Two Rocks homes

Two Rocks is wholly in the City of Wanneroo. Under the state planning regulations, adding shutters to a single house needs no development approval if three tests are met: the R-Codes apply to the work, it meets their deemed-to-comply provisions, and the place is not heritage protected.

That last test is worth checking here. Two Rocks has places on the City's Heritage List 2025, which holds 21 place records and 17 lime kiln records, and the Sun City Two Rocks Precinct is on it as a Category 1 entry, a group of places rather than a heritage area. The City's exemptions policy, adopted on 23 June 2026, does not exempt a site on its Municipal Heritage List or the State Register. If your property is listed, talk to the City before you order.

WA Seniors Card members can claim up to $400 per household towards security window screens or window shutters under the state Safety and Security Rebate.

Questions about roller shutters in Two Rocks

Is burglary rising in Two Rocks?

The numbers are too small to say. Two Rocks had 9 burglaries in 2021 and 20 in 2025, and yearly counts from 2017 to 2025 ranged from 7 to 24. The 2025 rate was 5.2 per 1,000 residents against 4.0 for metropolitan Perth, and estimated population growth of 31.4% means that rate overstates.

Do I need approval for shutters on a Two Rocks house?

Usually not for a single house where the R-Codes apply, the work is deemed-to-comply and the place is not heritage protected. The City of Wanneroo Heritage List includes places in Two Rocks, so if your property is a listed place, check with the City first.

What should I know about bushfire ratings in Two Rocks?
