Beaconsfield burglaries, then and now
In 2017, WA Police recorded 115 burglaries in Beaconsfield. By 2021 the count had come down to 70, and in 2025 it was 38. That is a fall of 45.7% over the last five years, and 67.0% across the longer run.
Those 38 burglaries give a 2025 rate of 7.2 per 1,000 residents, about 1.8 times the metropolitan rate of 4.0. Burglary is reported as a single figure for each suburb, so the count covers homes and businesses alike.
The direction is welcome, but the rate still sits above the metro figure. Roller shutters are one practical layer for a house here. When they are down they form a physical barrier on windows and doors and make forced entry slower and noisier. They add to, rather than replace, the basics WA Police list, such as deadlocks on external doors and windows and good lighting at entries.

Locking a Beaconsfield home for the holidays
19.5% of Beaconsfield residents were aged 65 or over at the 2021 Census, above the Greater Perth figure of 15.8%. Mining employed 4.9%, against 6.6% for Greater Perth. That mining share is a proxy only, because the census does not record fly-in fly-out work.
Going away over Christmas or for a few weeks in winter? WA Police holiday advice covers the basics: lights and electronics on timers, valuables and documents in a safe, and a trusted person holding your contact details and a spare key. Motorised shutters add to that. They can be lowered from one remote as you leave, run open and closed on a timer while the house is empty, and be operated from your phone over WiFi.
Ozroll's E-Series battery drive does not rely on mains power, and its solar option collects and stores energy from the sun to run the motors. In summer, closed shutters also keep direct sun off the glass of a shut-up house.

Shutters and blinds for Beaconsfield houses
The 2021 Census counted 79.3% of Beaconsfield's occupied dwellings as separate houses, 17.0% as semi-detached, terrace or townhouses and 3.6% as flats. Home ownership was 70.9%, close to the Greater Perth figure of 70.4%, and 36.0% of homes were owned outright.
For a separate house, residential roller shutters on bedrooms and glass doors make a sensible first stage, with motors that can be hardwired or battery driven. About one home in six is semi-detached or a townhouse, and in a strata scheme the default by-laws need the strata company's written consent for anything visible from outside the lot that is not in keeping with the building. Get that sorted before we measure.

Beaconsfield and salt air from the coast
Beaconsfield's boundary comes within 718 m of the coast, and the middle of the suburb is about 1.7 km from it. Salt carried inland on the wind is hard on metal fittings. When we measure, ask about the right finish and ongoing care for shutters and blind frames.

Beaconsfield, heritage areas and City of Fremantle approvals
Beaconsfield is in the City of Fremantle. The state exemption from development approval covers work on a single house only if three things hold: the R-Codes apply, the work is deemed-to-comply, and the property is not heritage protected.
That last point needs checking here. The City's heritage areas listing, LPP 3.6.1, describes two heritage areas, South Fremantle and Holland and Forrest Streets, whose statements of significance refer to their expansion into Beaconsfield in the 1930s. If your home is within a heritage area, the City's exemptions policy, LPP 1.7, treats it as heritage protected whether or not it is contributory. Any works then need development approval unless that policy's exemptions table lists them, and shutters and blinds do not appear in the table.
The City's heritage policy, LPP 3.6, also says front verandahs and porches on contributory and listed homes are not to be enclosed, and it does not allow external roller shutters in front of heritage shopfronts.
With 19.5% of residents aged 65 or over, the WA Seniors Card Safety and Security Rebate is worth knowing about. It covers security window screens or window shutters, up to $400 per household, claimable once.

Questions about roller shutters in Beaconsfield
Have burglaries fallen in Beaconsfield?
Yes. WA Police counted 115 in 2017, 70 in 2021 and 38 in 2025. The 2025 rate of 7.2 per 1,000 residents is still above the metro rate of 4.0.
Do heritage rules apply to Beaconsfield homes?
The City of Fremantle's listings describe the South Fremantle and Holland and Forrest Streets heritage areas as extending into Beaconsfield. If your home is within a heritage area, works need development approval unless the City's exemptions table covers them.
Does sea air affect shutters in Beaconsfield?
Beaconsfield is 718 m from the coast at its nearest point, and salt air is hard on outdoor metal. Ask about finishes and care when we measure.
Can I set Beaconsfield shutters to close while I am on holiday?
Yes. Motorised shutters can run on a timer while you are away, and with a WiFi hub you can open or close them from your phone.
