Roller shutters in Ballajura

The five year trend in Ballajura is down. WA Police recorded 96 burglaries in 2021 and 61 in 2025, 36.5% fewer. The highest count in the series was 163, in 2019. In the first six months of 2026 there were 27.

The latest year moved the other way. The 2025 figure of 61 was up from 37 in 2024, a rise of 64.9%, so it is worth knowing about even though the longer fall still stands. On the 18,459 residents counted in 2021, 61 burglaries gives a rate of 3.3 per 1,000, under the metropolitan rate of 4.0. The count includes businesses as well as homes. A shutter adds a physical barrier on windows and doors. It makes forced entry slower and noisier, and when lowered it keeps valuables out of sight.

The City of Swan's history, in its section on change and growth in the late twentieth century, records that suburban subdivisions spread into the Shire, “particularly in suburbs such as Malaga, Ballajura and Beechboro.” The locality name had been approved on 2 November 1972.
